Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there's no logical reason why I'm so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don't usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I'm flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn't help that he's buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we're roommates?
I suppose it doesn't matter. Fitzy has made it clear he's not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I'm not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I'm not about to start. I've got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he's missing?
He knows where to find me.

Who hasn't honestly been salivating for The Chase for, like, freaking ages?! I certainly have. I'm absolutely ADDICTED to Elle Kennedy's Off Campus series and I could not wait for more. No one writes delectable sports romances like Elle Kennedy does. I'm just obsessed. And I'm thrilled to share that The Chase fell right in line with all the ones I've loved before. IT'S SO SO SO GOOD! Readers will probably recognize Summer as the spoiled fashionista youngest sister of former Briar student, Dean Heyward-Dilaurentis. And we all know Fitzy as the gamer/ hockey player who's made appearances throughout the Off Campus series. But if you're not familiar with them at all, or you're like me and your memory of previously read books is just a tangled mish mosh of blurred storylines and minimal detail, well, you're all good to start right here with this first standalone in the Off Campus spinoff series, BriarU.Â
Summer and Fitz's story is magically delicious from beginning to end. Is there anything more alluring about a romance than the chase itself? This is a slow burning, somewhat angsty, always complicated sports romance. On paper, these characters make zero sense together, what with Summer loving the spotlight and Fitz preferring his quiet solitude. But the under current of this whole story is a powerful message about not making unfair assumptions, not passing judgment based on what you THINK you know about a person, and with that comes the glaring reality that maybe there's more to Fitz and Summer than each of them ever imagined. Their attraction is fiery and intense but they shape up to be a disastrously hot mess of confused feelings and reluctant attraction. Add in a their mutual unwillingness to admit their feelings and you have the most deliciously complicated read.
This was such a fun, addictive storyline. There are moments in this story so angsty and rife with heartache that I wanted to scream. There are moments so sweet and tender, I melted. There's no shortage of push and pull or side drama, which had me glued to every page. And there's a lot of really powerful themes in this book about girl power and rape culture and slut shaming and victim blaming, so be prepared for some serious truth bombs and gut checks because Elle Kennedy does not hold back. But true to form, Kennedy also guarantees boat loads of humor and hilarious banter between teammates and roommates and new and old friends. That's what I love so much about this book. It's adorably funny and sharp while remaining romantic but relevant. A story should entertain but also make you think and this one does. It claps back at a lot of real life situations that we tend to sweep under the rug for the sake of entertainment in our romance novels and it's done really well. I really enjoyed this book, all the intense feelings, all the swoony moments between Summer and Fitz and all the possibilities Elle Kennedy just set up for future books! You need this book! Go! Run! Now!"

The Chase Audible Audio Edition Elle Kennedy Jacob Morgan CJ Bloom Audible Studios Books Reviews
- So, Fitz is definitely no Garrett Graham and Summer is no Hannah Wells. If you haven’t read The Deal by this fabulous author, do yourself a favor and go read it!
I gotta admit, I was so looking forward to Fritz’s story after reading about him in The Goal. I just knew he was gonna be super hot and OTT possessive. Well, he was hot, but he was more of a beta male and that’s just not my cuppa.
Summer, bless her heart, was so flighty, but I did really enjoy her. Her thought processes were all over the place and the author did an amazing job depicting her ADD. Hats off Ms. Kennedy.
This part of the review is a “me†problem and I know not everyone will agree or relate. Some will so therefore I’m just gonna be honest. I HATE SLOWBURN!!! When a couple doesn’t actually get together until around 70%, I get bored. The writing was great, easy to follow story line, but I just wanted to scream and say “just get together already!†The drama with Hunter seemed so forced and was not enjoyable. Not that I feel like it was considered cheating, but there was a whole lot of leading on. I would like to have known what happened with Laurie...that was left too open for me.
Brenna made this book and if she doesn’t end up with Connelly, I’m gonna be super disappointed. But please have them together before the last quarter of the book...please.
Kinda feel like a heel leaving a 3 star, but in comparison with her other work, that’s where my honest review falls. I’ll even admit I keep wanting another of her H’s to be like Garrett because he is the best!
If you like angst and back and forth and a slower burn, this is for you. If you just want good writing, this is a book for you. If you are a fan of insta love...not so much. - Elle Kennedy is one of the greats. I’d buy a copy of the phone book if she wrote it. I devoured The Chase having anticipated Fitzy’s story for a long time. Sadly, it was disappointing. Poor Colin Fitzgerald sadly never graduates from supporting character to main romantic hero. The author never developed his character fully enough to explain his behavior towards Summer, and we never get a clear picture of the thoughts and feelings he struggles with. For a guy who has been portrayed as so introspective and somewhat mysterious in his previous appearances in the Briar hockey stories, it seemed important that we get in his head more so we can understand why the two main characters actually fall in love. Unfortunately this doesn’t happen. Instead, the lovable Summer takes center stage with a host of challenges that she battles with pluck and a generous amount of exuberant girl power sexual harassment, mean-girl bullying, learning disabilities, callous faculty advising, etc...she handles all. The author thew so many obstacles at Summer, she had to be supergirl. I loved her strong, feminist character, but Kennedy left little for Fitzy to do but observe, commiserate, have sex with Summer (FINALLY, after the slowest, most ambivalent burn in Briar history), and ultimately sexually objectify himself in a supposed-to-be-funny-but-cringe-worthy scene towards the novel’s end. I don’t want to give more detail other than it involved a preoccupation with Fitzy’s “sweet penis†and the size of “his package.†The author didn’t do the likeable and courageous Summer any favors by having her sink to the level she does for the sake of her mid-term project. Fitzy is reduced to a piece of meat. After so many years of sexual objectification, you’d think women would want to equalize up...not down. And I came away from this novel wondering what these two had going for them other than sexual chemistry.
